Crafting Excellence Since 1740

Established in 1740, the Manufacture de Sèvres is renowned for its rich tradition and innovative approach to ceramic arts. Originally founded as an artistic laboratory, it quickly became a leader in decorative arts and design. Today, Sèvres – Manufacture et Musée nationaux operates as a comprehensive ecosystem centered around ceramics, featuring a manufacture, two museums, an apprentice school, a gallery, and a showroom.

Located between Paris and Versailles along the Seine, the Manufacture thrives due to its international prestige, the quality of its porcelain and its unique savoir-faire. Inspired by the creativity of the resident artists, Sèvres continues to be a unique center for research on form and color.

Art and Craft in Porcelain

At the heart of the Manufacture de Sèvres’ savoir-faire lies a meticulous process, from formulating porcelain pastes to crafting and refining these materials into beautiful forms.

Each piece undergoes multiple firings, preserving its translucency and durability. Techniques such as turning, molding, and hand-decoration, including the application of metals and colors, underscore the artisanal excellence in every creation. This heritage, enriched through collaborations with artists and designers, solidifies Sèvres’ position as a pioneer in porcelain innovation.
