Glenn Sestig – Penthouse Duplex in Antwerp
Residential
Lighting
The interior designer and architect Glenn Sestig trusted Ozone Light to embellish this monumental penthouse duplex apartment in Antwerp with their Brasilia Sconce by Michel Boyer and their wall light Untitled H.
The owners of the house, a famous couple of artists, Carla Arocha and Luc Tuymans, appreciated the aesthetic of Albert Speer and Paul Troost, both favourite master builders of Hitler, the architecture of the duplex is therefor very much inspired by this neoclassical architecture. Although obviously having no affinity with the Nazi dictatorship, under which Paul Troost built the ‘Haus der Deutschen Kunst’, a museum which preserved great works of German history in 1933…
Luc Tuymans precises in an April 2017 issue of Wallpaper interview that “The negative connotations with authoritarian regimes are not the point here. It’s about the visual impact of these structures”. Indeed the monumental architecture with its strong rhythms, Roman arches and columns is reminiscent of the interwar architecture. The interior is based on a couple of strong axes which create interesting perspectives.
